Art has always been in my blood. I am at my best when I am being creative. It is such a release from a crazy hectic world. “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time”- Thomas Merton. As a child I was always coloring and drawing. I furthered my passion by receiving a dual Illustration/Graphic Design Degree at Northern Essex College and later accomplished my Bachelors in Fine Art from the University of UMass.
I have been creating portrait Silhouettes for many years and am excited to offer this service at The ART House. This classic art has been around for many years and adds a touch of class to any home. My work will be on display at the studio.
As a young mother it was challenging to be a productive artist. My kids are my world! Yes they painted on my walls and drove me crazy at times but that is how I came to teach art to kids…why not include my kids in classes? I starting running small art classes to kids of all ages here in my home shortly after I moved to Windham. I was quickly hosting Girl Scout troops and hosting birthday parties in my home studio. Seeing the love those kids had for art put a smile on my face! There is no judgment, only encouragement! There is no “wrong” way in art, sure we can all improve but like everything there is a process. I believe that positivity is the key to confidence.
The last couple years my husband and I took on a very extensive home renovation project. This eliminated my home studio space, but I always had hopes of finding a place elsewhere. As challenging as this life changing project was I found yet a new love in art! I was overwhelmed thinking how I could even begin to refurnish my entire new living space! I began searching on yard sale sites and anywhere to find good solid furniture that I could possibly refinish. I was amazed at all the affordable unique and great quality things I found. I began refinishing furniture using chalk paint. The techniques are endless and I was able to be creative in producing functional art. I am proud to display and sell refinished furniture at The ART House. The new life breathed into the old. I am excited to teach workshops on the special techniques using Heirloom Chalk paint and their many waxes and finishing products.
